FIBA Africa Zone-III Qualifiers: Cote d’Ivoire sees off Benin 81-57
Cote d’Ivoire continue its search for a 2011 All Africa Games ticket on superb form Wednesday in Day-2 of the FIBA Africa Zone-III elimination series in Lome, Togo with a 81-57 points victory over Benin Republic.
Cote d’Ivoire win three of the four quarters leaving Benin to pick one with full offense and defense style of play which saw six of the Coaches Tea Olivier, Benga Lemou and Yapi Pepin side scoring double figures.
Cote d’Ivoire won the first, second and fourth quarters by 21-12, 23-12 and 17-16 leaving Benin to settle for a slim 21-20 points win in the third quarter for a cumulative score-line of 81-57 points the second victory of the second best team in FIBA Africa flagship championship – The FIBA Africa Championship for Men.
Amara Kamate led the floor with 12 points and 6 rebounds, Abou Ben Fofana also recorded 12 points and 5 rebounds, the duo of Stéphane Agole and Alassane Meite added 12 points each while the duo of Bohui Gbotto and Alpha Yaya Ouattara contributed 10 points each to put Cote d’Ivoire in clear lead in the four nation elimination.
Cote d’Ivoire will battle Nigeria in Day-3 of the elimination at 17H00 on Thursday while Benin tries its luck against host Togo at 19H00.
